I think practically it’s always the case that a very large proportion of electorate votes for an image without, let’s say, reading a manifesto. In many cases there is very good ground for this. For example without deep understanding of Obama’s stand one can guess about his views upon racial relations. Or for instance it’s very unlikely that worker somewhere in Liverpool will vote for a conservative candidate.
