Привычка русских авторов украшать текст англоязычных статей многочисленными "however" подобна ключевой роли слова "однако" в анекдотах про чукчей.

британский бизнес-тренер говорил нам "however - м, отлично, это уже НЕ "Но", это классно звучит, вы не спорите с клиентом, не говорите "но". На самом деле, это то же самое, это так же плохо и неправильно, как и начинать ответ с "но". Так что забудьте и слово "however" тоже." :)

Нет, никаких паллиативов! Есть много еще более классных словечек. Например, "whatever" - попробуйте, уверен, клиенты оценят :-)

Мои японские англоязычные клиенты очень любят therefore. Солидно и указывает на непобиваемую логику.

В научных текстах у меня это вызывает раздражение - если действительно не therefore.

Thus it becomes apparent that the initial assumptions are incorrect and subsequent conclusions are wrong to a degree that can not be tolerated. Consequently the results have to be withdrawn introducing further irregularity.

Usually those "therefore" and "thus" are loosely justified. I'd rather say

However, the result shows degradation which confirms ..... Thus it seems that the initial assumptions were incorrect and subsequent conclusions were not justified. Consequently results withdrawal is advisable, even though that would introduce further irregularity.
