Just came to my mind! There is a woderful very detailed mathematical/logical theory comparing Soviet/totalitarian and Western ethical systems, written by a Soviet emigree mathematical pshychologist: Vladimir A. Lefebvre, Algebra of Conscience, 2-nd ed, 2001.
The Science authors obviosuly did not know of it's existence. They did not cite Lefebvre at all, but most of what they empirically found out has already been predicted and analysed more then 20 years ago.
If you can find this book somewhere, I'm sure that as a former Soviet citizen you'll like and appreciate it very much. I really enjoyed reading it a few years ago. I guess, that's another reason why I was not very surprized by the findings in this recent Science paper.
