I am about to graduate from high school, and I have taken a year of Russian. I have been looking into traveling to Russia next year and studying at the Moscow State University. I have heard some disconcerting things from a previous participant in the program I am looking into. Namely, she stated that the militia will sometimes throw Americans in jail unless they are bribed, and that other program participants were beaten and mugged several times. Does this strike you as plausible? I would appreciate any thoughts or input you have on the matter?

Сам в Университете не учился, но бываю там часто, плюс ко всему куча знакомых училась/учится там. То что кафешки на некоторых кафедрах архидорогие - есть такая проблема, а то чтоб студентов вылавливали - гыгы...
Эстонские студенты и те вполне нормально учатся, никто их не трогает, а тут американские...
